NEW ORLEANS -- The finance arm of General Electric will open an information technology office in New Orleans, adding hundreds of jobs to the local workforce.The announcement was made Friday by company leaders and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. They noted that on top of the direct employment of 300 people by GE Capital, another 301 indirect jobs will be created by the establishment of the facility.GE Senior Vice President General Counsel Brackett Deniston said cooperation between the state and the company helped make the project a reality.?We are thrilled to be part of the what is a rightly called the renaissance of New Orleans," he said.Jindal has touted government reforms as a reason corporations are looking at Louisiana as a viable place to do business.New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, "GE's decision to bring 300 new, high-tech jobs to New Orleans is major coup for our city. GE is an international business leader, and this announcement is a decisive show of confidence in our city's business climate."The center is expected to open by mid-2012.
