Creating a Life that You Want | Mindfulness Anger Management

peaceful emotionsThis is the first article in a five part series called, ?Creating the Life that You Want.?

How much satisfaction do you experience in living your life? As was discussed previously in this article, unless we have some basic ground of fulfillment as we go about our day to day, it will be difficult for us to make progress in getting over chronic anger.

This doesn?t mean we have to always be happy, and it?s natural that our life will have ups and downs, but if our basic ground is struggle, and if satisfaction rarely comes, then we need to do something to change that balance. Simply stated, our anger isn?t going to change as long as we don?t make personal enjoyment a part of our day to day existence, and part of our overall life vision.

How many times have you sat down and asked yourself, ?What am I doing with my life, and where is this all leading me??

When we?re stuck in a cycle of struggle it can be difficult to raise our gaze towards any kind of positive outlook. Our cynicism and anger close us off to any possibilities of improvement. We?ve been set up and let down too often, and we?re not about to let that happen again.

In one way this is intelligent because we?re just observing the way things seem to be. But what we need to realize is that things only seem to be that way because we are stuck in a negative loop that we?re playing over and over again.

If we can see beyond the blinders we?ll realize that possibilities for positive change are everywhere all the time, and that in any moment we can start to change our situation for the better. We?re only as stuck as we allow ourselves to be, and we always have countless possibilities of uplifting our situation, regardless of how down we may feel.

The question of how to achieve happiness and fulfillment is a huge one, and there are many sources that can help you find your way. We can get advice from our parents and peers, from religious faith or spiritual practice, from community support or social ideals. These and other sources of knowledge can all be very helpful.

However, we have to be careful because often times we end up fulfilling other people?s ideas of who we are. Other people are not you, and are therefore not the best source of inspiration for how you should be or what you should do.

Rather you have to follow your own inner compass, and it?s really up to you to create the life you want, regardless of what external guidelines you use as support. For example, a genuine spiritual teacher will say, ?Don?t take my word for it. Find out for yourself what is true.?
