Rowe earns trip to State dive podium
Homer divers Brian Rowe and Jasmine Lewis turned in strong performances at the Alaska Swimming and Diving State Championships on Saturday at Bartlett High School.
Rowe earned 340.90 points to finish third in the 1-meter dive state battle, while Lewis landed at fourth with 288.20 points.
Both girls and boys Homer teams finished 15th overall. Kodiak dominated the girls? competition, earning 100 points, while Dimond took the top spot in the boys? division with 131 points.
The State Tourney wrapped up the swim and dive season for 2012, although many will go on to compete as part of the Kachemak Swim Club in the off-season.
Your chance to help build a water trail
The Kachemak Bay Water Trail Steering Committee will hold open house meetings Nov. 13-16 to provide an opportunity for organizations, agencies and the general public to look at maps and suggest locations around Kachemak Bay suitable for Water Trail Sites.
Participants will also be asked to identify sensitive areas that should not be considered for a water trail site, such as wildlife, bird, plant or cultural concerns. Recommendations for seasonal closures especially related to wildlife are also being sought.
On Nov. 14, the Seldovia Community Building will host a public meeting, followed by a Nov. 15 meeting in the Homer Public Library Conference Room. A meeting is also set for 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Homer City Council Chambers and on the same day, 5-7 p.m., at the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve building across from Homer Air.

The City of Homer Community Recreation program will host its annual Ski and Winter Gear Swap at the Homer High School Commons on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 6:30 ? 8:30 p.m.
Barter, trade, sell, or give away your winter-fun equipment, including skis, snowboards, boots, clothing and more. Tables are free and admission is free, Homer High Ski Team will also be waxing skis for a small donation.

Riptide rages on
Best Western continues to lead Homer?s City Basketball League with a 4-0 record, but barely squeaked by K-12 Educators 50-47 on Monday at Homer Middle School.
In the early game, the Bulletproof Nets scored a 65-57 victory over the Titans, moving them into second place in the standings with a 3-1 record. The Titans dropped to 2-2.
The final game of the night pitted Gregoire?s Smooth Operators against Alaska Bible Institute. The close game ended in a tie, before the Operators put the moves on ABI to secure the 46-42 overtime win.
K-12, ABI and the Smooth Operators all three move to 1-3 as they move into the fifth week of league play. Games are played at the Homer Middle School gym every Monday at 6, 7:15 and 8:30 p.m.
