Owning a home can be an exciting adventure and a great blessing! Taking care of your home properly could be considered a part-time job. From maintaining the air conditioner and furnace to cleaning and basic home repair, there is always a great deal to do. Here is a seasonal guide to make sure you don?t miss anything:
AUTUMN: Typically, temperatures drop across the country in this season and it is a great time to winterize your home. Here are some of the main tasks that need to be handled.
* Turn on your furnace to see if it is functioning effectively. Expect a bit of a musty smell, which is very easily aired out by opening windows. Buy and change out furnace filters. If there is a repair needed, make an appointment with a trusted heating and cooling company sooner, rather than later.
* Purchase draft blockers for any doors or windows that will need them. Also, check and seal all windows and outdoor structures that are in need.
* If you live in an area where it is needed, switch your windows to storm windows.
* Be sure your ceiling fan blades are rotating clockwise which will push warm air downward.
* Do a plumbing check all through your home. Search for leaks that need repair. Wrap any pipes that need to be guarded from freezing temps.
* Clean out all gutters and throw away yard debris. Stack usable fire wood.
WINTER: You will delight in the beauty of winter since you have previously wisely completed your fall chores. Make a fire and some hot chocolate to sip!
* If you do not own smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors, you may want to install some. This is also a wonderful time of year to change all the batteries in any detectors that you have.
* Check to make sure your fire extinguisher is in working order too.
SPRING: This time of year the world seems to collectively stretch and yawn. Time to get outside!
* Clean every room thoroughly. Sort, reorganize and donate unwanted items.
* Have your chimney swept.
* Turn on the air conditioner and make sure it is cold and operating well.
* Create an outdoor space and bring out the patio furniture.
SUMMER: Enjoy relaxing in your outdoor space and consuming barbecue with family and friends!
* Install a bug zapper to help keep bugs under control.
* Do any major tasks, such as plumbing upgrades during this season.
Everyone in the family benefits from a well kept home.
